Dynamic criterion for collapse
A sufficient condition for wave collapse in the nonlinear Schrodinger equation is derived on the basis of an estimate of the kinetic energy. The collapse criterion can therefore be called dynamic. It is shown that the dynamic criterion is related to the strong collapse regime of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The analogy of the motion of a Newtonian particle in a potential, which is used in the derivation of the collapse criterion, makes it possible to extend the sufficient conditions for collapse to a number of other nonlinear partial differential equations. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
